Forgot to mention I am posting on soundcloud now as well so you can follow me there as well.

It has been a while since my last post but I have been busy with finishing the arrangement of quite a few tracks in my spare time.

Mike OldfieldI am a huge fan of Mike Oldfield’s music… Amorak is my favorite album and Songs from a Distant Earth comes in a close second. I am actually planning to do a whole tribute album but these songs come slowly as they can be complex to arrange. I have only now just finished the first one and it has been difficult.

I see this being the opening track of Little Epiphanies… it always has been for some reason.

Let There Be Light

Tori AmosOne of my favorite top ten albums is “Little Earthquakes” and Winter stands out for me as one of the best songs. I have been a fan of Tori since Little Earthquakes came out and was lucky enough to see her perform in Montreal in the early 90′s. I have to admit that I am not really enjoying her last few albums and think it is better when she does not act as producer… Scarlet’s Walk was a masterpiece though.

Heaven Can Wait (alphaville medley)

HeavenAs I had promised (threatened) I have uploaded the song that ended up as the first 60 seconds on Alphaville’s Live DVD! It is hard to imagine that this was done 12 years ago on a 233 mhz pentium 1 with a whopping 16 megs of ram! It took a loooong time to render each track and the final mixdown must have taken an hour or two. I sent the mix to Marian Gold back then and heard nothing and one day 6 years later I finally got my hands on a copy of the DVD and had this strange feeling I had heard the opening sound before. I was able to ask Marian about it through email and he said he found the track on a computer but did not remember where it came from. The song was originally part of a much longer medley made up of samples from various songs. This is a mix of Forever Young and Flame with a guest appearance by some whales…

Heaven Can Wait

AlphavilleOriginally released on “Afternoon in Utopia” a billion years ago and one of my favorite songs by this group. This version has taken me 4 months to finally feel it is the way I want it to sound. The original demo was more like a ballad and with every version it just got more dance like.

Dance with Me

peter gabrielA double whammy! Two for the price of none… I see these being back to back on the tracklist. It goes without saying that Peter is freaking brilliant and covering him is a real challenge. I started working on these 6 months ago and they have seen a drastic evolution. I only just found out that his new album, “Scratch My Back“, is covers of his favorite songs performed with a symphony. The sound is not that different to these tracks to my surprise. I am now attempting to remix the track he has made available on realworld remixed.

Here Comes the Flood

Washing of the Water

12 inch coverYeah! I like TFF…the b-sides from Songs from the Big Chair singles where great! I like Roland’s solo work even better! I was being cheeky when I was making this, the fake sounding horn section was on purpose, an homage to the 12 inch vinyl days. Turns out I actually really like the results, except the horns, I might lose those.

Everybody Wants to Rule the World

AlphavilleThe all l time classic last song played at the school dance! I must have listened to Alphaville’s first album a billion times when it came out and still like to hear every once in awhile. Lots of memories for me, some good some bad… that is life. I have a couple of versions of this in the works but this one I like the best. A bit of trivia for you! The live DVD of them live in Salt Lake City has part of a song I mixed for them way back in 1998ish. They started the concert with it as the opening track for the first 60 seconds. My moment of fame! I will try and get the full version posted here soon. The good news is Marian is keeping Alphaville alive and a new album is in the works! The  4 CD Crazyshow released a few years ago has some brilliant tracks!

UPDATE! I have added an updated version that I much happier with…

Forever Young – Demo (orchestral version v1)

Forever Young – Demo (orchrestral version v2)

Locust – Demo (a-ha Cover)

A-ha_Memorial_BeachYeah! I like a-ha! Big whoop, wanna fight about it? Cannot say that I am digging the last album but Analogue was brilliant. Way too much reverb used in production but solid songs. This track appeared on the Memorial Beach album which is one of my all time favorite albums. You might find it hard to recognize that this is the same song but I really wanted something dark and brooding. I am struggling to decide if this fits on Little Epiphanies or if it will go on the next album I am planning which will be a darker journey. Time will tell… too bad they are calling it quits, for real this time, maybe.
